5.0 out of 5 stars The Magic Continues... in Darker Shades!, September 22, 2011

In this second book of the Fifty Shades Trilogy, the romance continues between Christian and Ana from Ana's point of view... and what a busy POV it is!

I have enjoyed this story since it was on the author's website, so it's no surprise I loved this book! The edits have indeed improved the story. "Darker" opens up with the couple apart, but soon Christian and Ana are re-negotiating their relationship.

As in the first book of this trilogy, some aspects of the writing are sophomoric, mainly in relation to periphery characters, but don't let that deter you (!) because there is brilliance here too. The relationship between Ana and Christian is just so good. Their frank and open communication is fantastic and their story is not only totally engaging, but downright addicting! Christian (aka, Fifty) is one of the most memorable, delicious characters I have ever read. His voice is unique and clear and mesmerizing, yet he is revealed entirely through Ana's experiences and... After surviving 50 Shades of Grey, and after taking a break for a few days from Ana and Christian's tortured romance, I girded my loins and cracked open the second book of the trilogy, 50 Shades Darker.

For those of you intrigued by the words "butt plug" or "fisting," half of you will enjoy your lucky day, because one of those is kinda sorta featured in this book. As it is, the only fisting we ever see - ever come close to seeing - is that of Ana's or Christian's hands in the others' hair. And that happens a lot. Not as often as Ana or Christian gasping, or Christian setting his lips in a hard line, or Ana biting her lip, or Ana coming undone, or Christian frowning. In fact, Christian's frowning is such a "thing" that, when Ana frowns, another character observes that she's turning into Christian.

It's just ... WHERE THE HELL WAS THE EDITOR?

    But I digress.

To dig too deeply into the spectacle that is 50 Shades of Grey is to approach Sisyphean... Read more

FIFTY SHADES DARKER by E L James.

This is graphic BDSM erotic romance. There is no paranormal. There are no vampires.

If you're considering my opinion on this book, please read my review of book 1, Fifty Shades of Grey. I didn't want to duplicate that review here, but it applies.

This is book 2 in a trilogy. You must read book 1 before this. Both books are longer than average. The first book had the couple meet and get to know each other. Book 1 ends with a conflict, and the couple is apart. This book starts with Ana grieving over their break up, and then they get back together. Most of this story is Ana questioning and worrying about how Christian feels.

This is an erotic story, filled with many lengthy sex scenes. There is bondage, spanking, sex toys, and one instance of rear door activity.

These stories were originally written on the fan fiction website under Twilight. The characters' names were Edward and Bella... Read more

    The Book Case (Kindle Single)

    Product Description

In this compact and delightful murder mystery, New York Times bestselling suspense novelist Nelson DeMille returns to one of his most beloved characters—the hard-boiled NYPD Detective John Corey. New York City bookstore owner Otis Parker is dead, killed by a falling bookcase. A tragic accident? Corey isn’t so sure. With deadpan humor and skeptical eye, the determined detective is on the case, and everyone who has the misfortune to be connected to Parker is a suspect—the failing mystery writer in town to sign books; the beautiful young wife, and the bookstore employee who appears to be more nervous than aggrieved. In his debut Kindle Single, DeMille deftly maneuvers through the twists and turns of this fast-moving story, delivering his legion of fans yet another gripping read.

Since I "discovered" Nelson DeMille many years ago, he's become one of my favorite authors, and I've read everything he's written. So of course I pre-ordered "The Book Case" when I saw it listed as a Kindle Single.

The short story (or novelette, if you like) features John Corey, a recurring character in several of DeMille's novels. While I didn't care too much for Corey in his first appearance in Plum Island, he's grown on me, with his quick-witted sense of humor and his dogged determination to solve a case. The story in "The Book Case" predates Plum Island, at a time when Corey was still a detective with the NYPD. That was well before he met (and later married) FBI agent Kate Mayfield, also one of my favorite DeMille characters.

In "The Book Case," Detective Corey is investigating the death of bookstore owner Otis Parker. Was it an accident or was it murder? The evidence, or actually some missing evidence, convinces Corey that foul play was involved. It looked... Read more

It was interesting to read that DeMille was releasing a short story on Kindle Singles; I had seen Word of Honor in the TV version Word of Honor and the John Travolta movie based on The General's Daughter. I had also read very positive reviews of several of his books. Reviewers had consistently emphasized how carefully researched his novels were, how well written, how much time he spent on each, writing and crafting in long hand on yellow legal pads.

This short story had several of the elements I expected: written in the... Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars Wrong genre?, May 9, 2012
This review is from: The Book Case (Kindle Single) (Kindle Edition)
As a long time DeMille fan, I was thrilled that another Corey book was out. Unfortunately, that thrill was short-lived. Rather than the richly developed characters, plot and storyline DeMille presents to the reader in the rest of his novels, what we got was a poorly thought-out plot and with no development at all. The characters were flat and the plot was totally predictable. I won't even call this a poor effort...it is closer to "no effort". Perhaps DeMille should abandon the "Singles" genre and concentrate on what he does so well; novels with richly woven story lines complete with vivid characters and plot.

4.0 out of 5 stars Supernatural Fantasy with teenage attitude to boot, August 31, 2011

This review is from: The Seventh Sister, A Paranormal Romance (Parched, book 2) (Kindle Edition)
This is written in a fresh bouncy YA way and I enjoyed it. Zillael (prob. spelt that wrong)is the type of older teen that always seems to be in detention, due to her attitude. She hates the small town she lives in, the people around her, the fact her mom is never around and of course the way everyone stares at her because she is a beauty. During a detention stint in which she has to serve punch to fellow classmates, she is attacked by vampire like beings and that is when she finds out that not only are some people around her not entirely human, but neither is she. The only thing that bothered me about the storyline is that it took me a while to figure out her age, because in the beginning she appears to be much younger (based on reactions in class and classmates) and it wasn't until the author mentioned a car she drove on occasion, that I realised she must be over 16. The scenes with the young male vamp in her bedroom are a bit racy (only a tidge, so I would recommend that the reader... Read more

        5.0 out of 5 stars I'm Intrigued, October 13, 2011
        Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: The Seventh Sister, A Paranormal Romance (Parched, book 2) (Kindle Edition)
Someone told me to download this book. I took a chance and downloaded it. No one wants to read a bunch of mistakes but I didn't see all those errors, just one or two, the kind of stuff you find in all books basically. I'm intrigued by the series. To be honest, I'm not a reader of fantasy but one of my friends told me to try it. So I read it and now I'm in to it.

This series says it's for adults but it's for teens too. I would say 17 and older because there's one scene that's sort of something you don't want your 16 year old doing but it happens though, as a parent you just don't want to know about it. Now that I'm hooked, I'm reading Parched and so far so good. Although Parched is book one, and this is book two, it was kind of confusing at first. It's not linear.

P.s, I did notice that I downloaded a second edition that's why I was so nicely surprised. If the author is out there, maybe you should let people know that. I think that's a better edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this too!, September 25, 2011

This review is from: The Seventh Sister, A Paranormal Romance (Parched, book 2) (Kindle Edition)
Okay, finally finished it and fast. Loved it too! I read Parched first and this series is far from being cliché. This sister, Zill (sorry can't remember how to spell the full name right now) but Zill is mentioned in Parched and I'm glad she wrote a story to bring her into the main story. I'd like to see more about Fawn in the same way, and even Baron. I also like how different Zill is from the other two sisters. And I like how different the vampire in this story. Vayle I think is different from Baron. I can't wait until they all get together. Come on book three! This review is rushed but there's so much more I want to say about this series. I'm just glad it exists because it's really entertaining. Oh and one more thing. I think the description says that it's not YA. So, for the other person to say what she said is wrong. Just thought I'd say that.
